5 Undeniable Signs of a Failing Marriage

Photo of childrenIt’s generally known in America that about 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce. What is not so well-known are the signs of a failing marriage. What kinds of things could be signaling the end? When is it time to file divorce?

5 Most Common Signs of a Failing Marriage

If you think your marriage could be heading for trouble, take a step back and see if any of these sound familiar.

  1. Playing the Blame Game – If you or your partner are constantly blaming each other for any sort of problems (financial, emotional, sexual), it brings a lot of negativity to a marriage. If either of you are dwelling on everything the other is doing wrong, it could be a sign.
  2. Becoming Withdrawn – A good marriage is supposed to work much like a partnership, where each of you genuinely enjoy each other’s company and work together. If either of you start to become withdrawn from the other, preferring to do things alone or not at all, then that could be a sign that you or your partner just wants to be alone.
  3. I’m Right. Always – The need to be right about everything, even when it’s illogical, means that your partner has to be wrong. Making your partner wrong 100 percent of the time, or even most of the time, may be a sign that the partnership is failing.
  4. You Have Justify Everything – You shouldn’t have to justify everything you do. For example, you have to resort to self-assurances that not doing the things you were supposed to do, like coming home before midnight, is okay. Maybe you think you’re justified because of something your partner did or didn’t do, or you say you’re an adult and you can do what you want. It’s a sign.
  5. Neglecting One Another – How you decide to spend your time says a lot about how you feel about your marriage. If you find that you or your partner are either always too tired or busy to spend any quality time together, then it is likely the beginning of the end.

Divorce is not necessarily the end. In many cases, it’s actually the beginning of something better, with infinite opportunities. One in two marriages end in divorce. Don’t be ashamed if you need a divorce attorney. Remember, you aren’t the only one.
