Lewisville Grandparents and Relative Rights Attorneys
Denton County· Dallas County · Tarrant County · Collin County
Texas family law allows grandparents to have possession of and access to grandchildren under certain instances. The law further provides for other relatives or persons with significant and substantial contact with a child to have a recognized interest in the child. In other words, the law gives grandparents the right to apply for custody of a grandchild under specific circumstances. In some situations, a person who is not a blood of marriage relative of the child may apply for custody.

Criteria for Grandparents' Rights to Child Custody and Conservatorship
Despite significant evidence that grandparents' involvement in the lives of their grandchildren is overwhelmingly beneficial, Texas family law can be restrictive as to when a grandparent may petition for conservatorship and possession of and access to a grandchild.
The law recognizes a difference between when a grandparent is attempting to become a managing conservator of a grandchild versus having possession of and access to a grandchild.
If you believe your grandchild's present circumstances significantly impair the child's physical health or emotional development and/or you are being wrongfully denied possession of or access to your grandchild, you may have legal rights to protect your grandchild, to act in his or her best interests and/or have access to your grandchild.
